Product Overview

Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic II and DTS Decoding: This receiver has a built-in decoder for Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic II and DTS playback. Digital Cinema Sound: This is a collaboration between Sony Electronics and Sony Pictures where the actual measurements of the sound acoustics in these studios are taken. This information is programmed into this receiver so as to simulate the actual theater in your home environment. These modes are especially effective with movie software encoded with multi-channel formats. There are three DCS soundfields to choose from: Cinema Studio EX A: reproduces the sound characteristics of the Sony Pictures Entertainment "Cary Grant Theater" cinema production studio. Cinema Studio EX B: reproduces the sound characteristics of the Sony Pictures Entertainment "Kim Novak Theater" cinema production studio. Cinema Studio EX C: reproduces the sound characteristics of the Sony Pictures Entertainment scoring stage Surround Modes: This receiver incorporates a wide variety of surround modes to bring you maximum enjoyment from your audio and video software. The surround modes include: Dolby Digital Dolby Pro Logic II (Movie and Music) DTS Cinema Studio EX A Cinema Studio EX B Cinema Studio EX C Hall Jazz Club Live Concert Game Headphone Theater: While the above listed surround modes are primarily for use with speakers, you can also experience a theater-like environment while listening through a pair of headphones. Selecting any Sound Field selection (except 2-channel stereo or Auto Decoding) will activate the Headphone Theater mode. Auto Decoding: The Auto Decoding function automatically detects the type of audio signal being input (Dolby Digital, DTS, or standard 2-channel stereo) and performs the proper decoding if necessary. This mode presents the sound as it was recorded/encoded, without adding any effects. If there are no low frequency signals, such as Dolby Digital LFE, it will generate a low frequency signal for output to the subwoofer. Preset Station Naming: You can enter a name of up to 8 characters for any of the 20 FM and 10 AM preset stations. When the preset station is selected, the name will appear in the receiver's front panel display. DVD/SACD Player Features Disc Compatibility: This unit will play DVD-Video, Video CDs, Audio CDs (including CD-R, CD-RW, and MP3), and Super Audio CDs (SACD). Disc Exchange: While one disc is playing, you can change any of the other four discs loaded in the player. MP3 Playback: This unit will play MP3 files recorded onto CD-ROM, CD-R and CD-RW discs using the ISO 9660 level 1/level 2, or Joliet formats. If the MP3 file you play back has an ID3 tag, the ID3 tag information will be displayed as a track name. While playing MP3 discs, the unit can perform Program Play, Repeat Play, or Random Play functions. Progressive Scan Output: The component video output on this unit can be used to send 480p progressive scan signals to a progressive scan capable television. In contrast to the 30 frames shown per second by the interlaced format, the progressive format displays 60 frames per second for more detailed images. Multi-Angle Display: This function allows you to choose the viewing angle of scenes that were shot from a number of different angles. Note: This function is limited to DVDs recorded with multiple camera angles. Speaker Setup Menu: During Speaker Setup, you can select the presence, size, distance and level of the front, center, and rear speakers. You can also indicate the presence of a powered subwoofer, independently adjust the balance of the front and rear speakers (in 6 steps left or right), and activate a test tone. Screen Setup Menu: During Screen Setup, you can select the TV type (16:9, 4:3 Letter Box, or 4:3 Pan Scan), Screen Saver (on or off), Background type (Jacket, Picture, Graphics, Blue or Black), and Component Out (interlace or progressive). Parental Control: This unit allows you to set two kinds of playback restrictions for DVDs using Parental Control and Custom Parental Control. Parental Control allows you to restrict playback according to a predetermined level. You can select a parental control rating from 0-8, which is protected by a 4-digit password. Using the same registered password, Custom Parental Control allows you to set playback restrictions for a specific disc. You can set the same Custom Parental Control password for up to 25 discs. Remote Control RM-CL70 Multibrand LCD Remote: The supplied remote can operate all of the receiver and disc player functions, as well as control the basic functions of multiple brands of TVs, VCRs, Satellite Receivers and Cable Boxes. The remote has a backlit rectangular LCD display indicating the current unit being operated or the current status during setup. It has a scroll key which allows you easily select a function or confirm a setting for various setup procedures. It operates on 3 "AA" batteries (supplied). Dimensions: Width= 2.464", Length= 6.975", Height= 1.216", Display= Approximately 1" x 1-5/8" Inputs and Outputs Notes Speaker Outputs: There are binding post connectors for the speakers. They are not 5-way because a plastic collar prevents their use with spade lugs, and are spaced too far apart to use with dual banana plugs. A/V Inputs/Outputs: This unit has three A/V inputs and one A/V output with RCA stereo audio and S-Video connections, plus an S-Video Monitor output. There are no composite video connections on this unit. The TV must have S-Video or Component Video inputs to be compatible with this unit. Component Video Connections: There is one Component Video inputs and one Component Video outputs. This allows you to switch between the unit's built-in DVD player and another external source with component video output. When the mode of the unit is not set to "DVD", the signal from the Component Video In is output through the Component Video Out jacks. Progressive/Interlace Output: If the mode is set to "DVD" and "Interlace" in the Screen Setup menu, the signal is output from both the S-Video Monitor Out jacks and the Component Video Out jacks. If the mode of the unit is set to "DVD" and "Progressive", the signal is output only from the Component Video Out jacks. Note: There is a switch on the unit's rear panel to allow you to choose an "Interlace" signal or "Selectable" signal. You can choose the type of output you desire from the Screen Setup menu only if the switch is in the "Selectable" position.
